Interview with children's mayor Vivienne Vermue: Haarlemmermeer is beautiful
Cool
“I thought the arrival of Sinterklaas was the coolest thing to do so far,” says Vivienne. “Together with the mayor we were in four different centers of the municipality. Santa arrived in different ways: in a car, on a boat and on a bicycle. Great that I could also welcome Santa. It's a lot of fun doing things together with the mayor. You normally don't do that if you are not a children's mayor.”
On the agenda
HVO-Querido receives refugees in a former office building in Cruquius. Children's mayor Vivienne Vermue has arranged to visit Ukrainian children there. “I'm really looking forward to that. I hope that I can do something for the children of asylum seekers. I'm going to ask the children there what they need most. I also hope that children who do not feel safe around school or in the neighborhood will know where to find me. I will also go to the New Year's reception on January 8 and I will go with the mayor to the King's Day celebration and Remembrance Day.”
Living and playing in Haarlemmermeer
Vivienne enjoys living in Haarlemmermeer, playing and doing fun things. “I think Haarlemmermeer is a beautiful municipality to live in. The Toolenburgerplas is one of my favorite places. You can swim there, there is a playground and sports equipment. There are also many good cycle paths in Haarlemmermeer. In the Haarlemmermeer Museum De Cruquius you will learn how water was pumped out in the past. It is important that people know that. You can also do a lot of sports in our municipality. I play softball for the Pioniers. I would like children to exercise more. And then especially play softball because that is a fun and sporty sport to do.”
For 'start innovating'
There is a lot to do in Haarlemmermeer. “It is beautiful and green, with many parks. Another favorite spot is PARK21. There is a playground with an airplane and a boat, there are slides and you can enjoy walking and cycling. Schiphol is also nice. You can go there with a fast bus to watch planes. In the Historical Museum you can talk to each other using old telephones. And just like in the Toolenburgerplas, you can also swim well in the Haarlemmermeerse Bos. There is a climbing course with a climbing hut in the woods. I also like to go to the library and to the play library. Nice to change toys without having to buy them!”
