Daniëlle Meijer: owner of Liefs from Haarlemmermeer
To Haarlemmermeer for love
“My boyfriend was born and raised in Hoofddorp, I came to Haarlemmermeer for love,” Daniëlle explains her link with our municipality. “I have always said that I would never leave Amsterdam. My three-storey apartment at the back is nice when you are young, but super small. Now we have plenty of space, with a spacious garden. And you live here very centrally.”
Flat and expansive
Her spontaneous reaction to 'Haarlemmermeer': “The polder. It's all so much flatter and more expansive here. Where you look you see straight lines as if drawn along a ruler. So different from a city. You will love it, just like the wind that always blows you here. When all those beautiful bulb fields are in bloom, the polder is at its most beautiful. I love the Haarlemmermeerse Bos. That's such a cool place to walk.”
Haarlemmermeer is so vast. There is still so much that has not been discovered.
Secret places
What Daniëlle wants to give the residents and visitors of Haarlemmermeer are the secret, almost hidden places. “Haarlemmermeer is so vast. There is still so much that has not been discovered. If you go to the south of the municipality, to Abbenes, you can sit on a terrace above the water. Very suitable for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. A cool place on the Ringvaart, you can see the boats passing by. I wish everyone the opportunity to discover such a place. I empathize with what attracts people, what they would like to see and do. A snack bar on the corner, for example, is not special. Yet it can easily become special because of what they do differently. The locations must be exciting and slightly different. And we have plenty of those in Haarlemmermeer.”
Surprise people
The mission of Daniëlle Meijer and her magazine Liefs uit Haarlemmermeer: surprise people with cool places. It is precisely those hotspots that you should look for. “I want to keep telling you what fascinating places there are. There is a lot to tell, because we are a large municipality. I show this twice a year in the Liefs uit Haarlemmermeer magazine and of course weekly on my blog and the various social media.”

Buy Local
Daniëlle is a super fan of Koop Lokaal. “There are a lot of fun things in Haarlemmermeer and incredibly good entrepreneurs who do fantastic things. We must realize that the locals deserve attention. Liefs uit Haarlemmermeer collaborates with, among others, the MeerPas. A local Haarlemmermeer alternative to the national gift card. I like that and I pay attention to that. It is good for the local entrepreneur, and therefore for the quality of life. I also like to put local entrepreneurs in the spotlight.”
Gain inspiration on the bike
Daniëlle gains inspiration while cycling through Haarlemmermeer. “I also follow local Facebook groups from the various centers and follow entrepreneurs, read the local newspapers and check InforMeer and Meerradio. You should go out in Haarlemmermeer, I encourage that. I want to continue to inspire people to visit secret, undiscovered places. The biggest compliment I can get is: 'Wow, I didn't even know that was near me, and I've lived here for so long!'” Curious about everything Liefs uit Haarlemmermeer recommends?
