Jurgen Nobel: Hoofddorp alderman with a mission

Jurgen Nobel (34) is an alderman with a broad portfolio, including the city center of Hoofddorp. And as a real Hoofddorp resident, this is made for him. We were especially curious about his tips for outings in Haarlemmermeer. You too? Then read on quickly!

“Despite the fact that I was born in the hospital in Haarlem, I have lived in Hoofddorp all my life. A large part of this in or near the center. I have seen Hoofddorp change into what it is now; a village with a city character. But we are not there yet, because I see that there are still many opportunities in Hoofddorp.”

Identity of Haarlemmermeer in the mentality of the inhabitants

“We often look for the identity of a city or region in physical things. Take, for example, the Zaanse houses that everyone in Zaandam knows. Our identity is much more in how people are. The entrepreneurial spirit of the people here. We are under the smoke of Amsterdam, but have the Rotterdam no-nonsense mentality. We should be proud of the beautiful place where we live.”

If I ever leave here, I hope I can look back with satisfaction. That Hoofddorp has become a pleasant city. That my son wants to and can continue to live here.

Future of Hoofddorp

“As far as I am concerned, the developments are not just about the big things, for example extending the North/South line. But also the little things. If I ever leave here, I hope I can look back with satisfaction. That Hoofddorp has become a pleasant city. That my son wants to and can continue to live here. The great thing about Haarlemmermeer is that a lot is happening. If we see something that is no longer beautiful or good, we are not afraid to renew it. Hoofddorp will eventually become a city, but otherwise Haarlemmermeer consists of rural and green villages. It is that combination of village and spacious living, for example on the water, and yet close to facilities. I can imagine that residents enjoy living here. It's up to us to keep it."

Favorite places to relax

“I have to say that I go out less than I would like. But we now visit the city park in Hoofddorp and the petting zoo a lot with our one-year-old son. It is wonderful to see these places through the eyes of that little man. We also often visit the Haarlemmermeerse bos and sometimes at the Toolenburgerplas. These are great places to go, especially in the summer. I often take friends and family from outside this region or outside the Netherlands to an airplane spotting spot. That is really unique for Haarlemmermeer.”

And Mysteryland remains great, very nice to see that these kinds of major events can take place in our municipality.

Events and restaurants

“I have participated in a number of times Mud Masters. That was tough, but really cool to experience. I would like to participate again. And Mystery Land remains great, very nice to see that these kinds of major events can take place in our municipality.”

"I think it's Grain warehouse in Vijfhuizen really great place! First of all because a historic building was given a new destination here. This immediately gave the restaurant more character. But you can also eat delicious food there. You also have a lot to choose from in Hoofddorp, for example Fort Noxx and Darbar. Located near our town hall Den BurghThat remains a favorite of mine as well. And the Gerritshoeve that is being rebuilt at the entrance of HydePark. I hope that will become a new favorite place.”
