Polder portrait: Haarlemmermeer in pictures and words
May 14, 2025
What do you get when a poet and a photographer inspire each other? A unique exhibition that can now be visited in the Cruquius Museum. Kees van der Veer (camera) and Leo Richardson (pen) dived into the polder together and came back with something special: fifteen powerful combinations of photos and poems, in which the soul of the Haarlemmermeerpolder comes to life.

Reading time: 1 minute
Leo's words and Kees' images
The idea came about in 2022: one landscape, two views. Kees captured it in images, Leo translated it into poetry. The result? An atmospheric mix of past and present, of peace and movement. An ode to land that was once water. “Leo's words made me see my own work in a new light,” says Kees.
Leo: “Kees' images gave me the language I was looking for.”
Come and experience it for yourself in the Waterschapszaal of the Cruquius Museum, Cruquiusdijk 27. The exhibition can be seen until November!
