Street art: art that makes you happy

January 9 2025
Colorful, diverse and typically Haarlemmermeer is the street art artwork in the bicycle and pedestrian tunnel under the Van Heuven Goedhartlaan at Musholm. And with large yellow and purple crocuses, the electricity house on the corner of the Venneperweg and the Hoofdweg has been given a cheerful, spring-like appearance. At the request of the city council, more street art artworks will be added to Haarlemmermeer.

You will be amazed by the bicycle tunnel at Musholm. You will literally cycle or walk through a work of art with sailing ships, fish, swans, the De Cruquius pumping station, a field of grain and airplanes. The work was created by a collective led by Hoofddorp street art artist Daan Wille. “I made a sketch in advance, which was filled in by the artists. One works more realistically, the other more cartoonish. That is how it became a very diverse work.” He added the texts to the work of art himself.

History

Because it is not only colourful and diverse, you can also learn something from it. “It shows the history of Haarlemmermeer: the water of the former Haarlemmermeer, the pumping station that drained the lake, the new land that was created, Schiphol. I added texts and dates to it, so that it is understandable for everyone.” He would like to create an entire street art route with an educational touch. “For example, for school classes you can link a project to it, such as a photo competition.”
