In this route, the sky is the main theme. See Dutch skies with clouds while departing and landing aircraft come to and from Schiphol. You cycle on the beautiful paths of Haarlemmermeer on the edge of the Ringvaart and on the Geniedijk. You will arrive in the Haarlemmermeer villages of Aalsmouderbrug, Badhoevedorp, Lijnden and Zwanenburg. Of course, the airport is not to be missed. Along the way you will encounter story posts, striking appearances in the landscape that you can hardly miss. Get off and scan the QR code on the pole. Starting point

Start your cycling route quietly with a cup of coffee at the popular beach pavilion Dad's Beach House at the recreational lake in the Haarlemmermeer forest. The pavilion is open six days a week from 11.00am. If you are totally in a sporty mood, you can also get one here rent a sup board to explore the lake by water. Ready to start your cycling tour? Drive out of the forest past the riding school towards the IJweg. Here you cross the Geniedijk, turn right and head towards the center of Hoofddorp.

1 Forts near Hoofdorp and Aalsmeer

The Geniedijk is higher than the low-lying polder. The dike is green and runs right through Hoofddorp. The Geniedijk is part of the Defense of Amsterdam and connects the various forts. The first story pole on this route can be found at the intersection of Kruisweg and Geniedijk (Kaj Munk College). Story Pole 1 LINE tells the story of the opening of the railway Haarlem-Hoofddorp-Aalsmeer and Hoofddorp-Leiden. After reading the story, continue your route over the Geniedijk and along the way you will pass story pole 2 DIVE about the Dr. Nanningabad (2). You pass it Fort near Hoofddorp en Windmill de Eerstelling. Continue driving over the dike via junctions 58, 63 until you reach junction 94: Fort bij Aalsmeer. Here it is CRASH war museum  established.

2 ring canal

The Ringvaart is an important part of the history of the drainage of the Haarlemmermeerpolder. Together with the pumping stations, they pumped the lake empty. Now it is the border of the municipality and a nice place to cycle along. The route continues for a large part along the canal. After the Fort near Aalsmeer, turn left and cycle 28 kilometers along the Ringvaart to Zwanenburg.

3 Schiphol East

On the way you pass the Waterwolf tunnel, past the new pumping station 'De Bolsius' that now ensures dry feet and the hangars of Schiphol-East. Just after you have passed under the A9 motorway, you will find the third story pole of your route. Story Pole 11 HIGH tells you about the former Fort at Schiphol. Our internationally renowned airport owes its name to this. However, the fort is no longer there, but the history lives on through the story pole.

4 Badhoevedorp

You follow the route along the Ringvaart towards Badhoevedorp. You pass along the way Later on the water, a nice stop for lunch. Continue your journey. Opposite the drawbridge and the Molen van Sloten you will find another story pole; 10 Farm. This will teach you more about the origin of this village in the 19e century..

5 Steam pumping station

You then cycle along the Ringvaart and pass it Steam pumping station De Lijnden. This steam pumping station also played a role in the reclamation. Only when you are in Zwanenburg do you turn left onto Domineeslaan to bicycle junction 51. Opposite you, on the water, are Steam pumping station Halfweg en Sugar City. When you see this, turn left. Here you will find the following story pole; 12 STROKE. Get to know the naval battle between the Beggars and the Spanish fleet that took place on the Haarlemmermeer in 1573.

6 Polder track

Head back to cycle junction 55 at the Haarlemmermeerse bos in Hoofddorp. You will be cycling along the Polderbaan. Of course, stop on the spotter spot to see the planes land and take off up close.

Continue cycling until you reach the IJweg again. When the wind blows hard, this is a challenge. You then have completed a round of 45 kilometers. Of course you can Dad's Beach House regain strength.
