Tom Claassen statue

In Haarlemmermeer, each town is characterized by an iconic building. You can recognize Hoofddorp by a unique aluminium statue: 't Mannetje. This seven-meter-high statue on the Burgemeester van Stamplein was made by Dutch sculptor Tom Claassen. A total of 22 polished aluminium pieces that resemble pebbles or cushions make up the statue. This eye-catcher has become the visual icon of Hoofddorp.

Dik Trom Youth Award

Hoofddorp is known for Dik Trom, the Haarlemmermeer youth hero from a series of six children's books. These popular children's books were written by Dutch writer Johan Kieviet, who lived in Hoofddorp himself. Like the writer, Dik Trom also lives in Hoofddorp. On the Marktplein you will find a statue of this famous hero.

The municipality of Haarlemmermeer organizes a special award in honor of Dik Trom. The Dik Trom Youth Award honors children and young people from Haarlemmermeer who have contributed to society in a unique way. For example, by collecting money for victims of a disaster or keeping your own neighborhood clean. On the website of the municipality Haarlemmermeer you will find more information about the presentation of this award.
