Trees to dream away with

The cycle route starts at the Wieger Bruinlaan in Hoofddorp. From here you cycle through the beautiful polder landscape towards Vijfhuizen and you will encounter many other special places in addition to the trees. 

You will find it in Vijfhuizen Kunstfort Vijfhuizen. This fort is one of the forts that are part of the monumental Defense Line of Amsterdam, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In this special place, visual art and military heritage come together. Here you can view exhibitions, participate in workshops, but also enjoy a snack and a drink.

From Vijfhuizen you cycle along the Haarlemmermeerse Bos, until you arrive at the village of Cruquius. Here lies the historical De Cruquius pumping station. This steam pumping station from 1849 is one of three pumping stations with which Haarlemmermeer was drained between 1849 and 1852. This unique location has since been converted into a cultural hotspot with an innovative museum. 
 

It's a little further away Historical Museum Haarlemmermeer. In this museum you can learn everything about the general history of this 170-year-old polder. The indoor museum has a central square with a recreated school, a church and of course a café. There is even a water pump in the middle! The Haarlemmermeerpolder was drained for agricultural land, so you will also find many original agricultural tools here.  

There is a beautiful lake in the Hoofddorp district of Toolenburg: the Toolenburgerplas. This lake is an oasis of peace for sun worshipers and swimming enthusiasts. The entire recreation area is over 85 hectares. The Toolenburgerplas also has restaurants where you can sit on the waterside terrace, such as restaurant Darling in a restaurant Long Island. 
 

Via the Toolenburgerplas you cycle up to Hoofddorp, where you pass the Fortress of Hoofddorp drives. There is much to experience at this unique location. For example, you can attend theater performances and concerts in the open-air theater and view exhibitions in this beautiful monumental building. You can also go to for a delicious lunch or dinner restaurant Fort NOXX.
