MTB route Groene Weelde
This route consists largely of single tracks and goes over a hill with a height of no less than 42 meters! The route also takes you past interesting places, such as the Big Spotters Hill viewpoint and the Historical Museum Haarlemmermeer. Enjoy the adrenaline and be inspired by the surroundings!
Starting point
The route starts at the Pannenkoeken Paviljoen on the Kruisweg in Cruquius. Good to know: the entire route is marked with square posts, with the international MTB sign in red. This way you know exactly where to go while cycling.
1 Pancake Pavilion
Pancake Pavilion in Cruquius is the starting point. This restaurant is located in the beautiful nature reserve De Groene Weelde. It is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious pancake, before or after your departure.
2 Big Spotters Hill
From the Pannenkoeken Paviljoen you cycle up through the Groene Weelde, until you arrive at Big Spotters Hill. This hill was built in 2002 for the Floriade and is 42 meters high - a huge climb with your mountain bike! The mound is made of the earth that was released during the excavation of ditches and ponds on the Floriade site. The shape is inspired by the Egyptian Pyramid of Cheops. Big Spotters Hill is a special vantage point in the Haarlemmermeerse Bos. So get off your bike and enjoy the wide view!
3 Expo Five Houses
From the Haarlemmermeer forest cycle up to Vijfhuizen. Find your event location here Expo Greater Amsterdam. The glass building was erected during the Floriade 2002. The exhibition space has an area of no less than 26.000 square meters and even has an auditorium. This unique glass accommodation is the perfect location for various fairs and events, such as Bright Day, Citromobile, the Libelle Summer Week and various flea markets.
4 Historical Museum Haarlemmermeer
Via the Liniepad you cycle along the Plesman corner back to the Haarlemmermeerse Bos. Here you pass it Historical Museum Haarlemmermeer, where you can learn everything about the history of the polder, which is 170 years young. The indoor museum has a central square with a recreated school, a church and of course a café. There is even a water pump in the middle! The Haarlemmermeerpolder was drained for agricultural land. That is why you will also find many old agricultural tools here. Tip for the kids: children aged 4 to 12 can do a scavenger hunt here. Fun and educational!
End point
From the Haarlemmermeerse Bos you cycle all the way to the Boseilanden in Zwaanshoek, after which you return uphill. The route ends where you started, at the Pannenkoeken Paviljoen in Cruquius.
