Big Spotters Hill

In the Groene Weelde, a recreation area that lies between Hoofddorp, Cruquius and Vijfhuizen, you will find the Big Spotters Hill. This special pyramid-shaped hill gives you an amazing view over the Haarlemmermeer. In the summer, the beautiful area of ​​the Groene Weelde is a popular attraction for hiking enthusiasts, but also the setting for various cool music festivals.

Special viewpoint 

Big Spotters Hill in Vijfhuizen were built on an artificial island for the Floriade 2002 in Haarlemmermeer. The viewpoint is no less than 22 meters high and is made of the sand and earth that was released during the excavation of the Floriade site. This site now forms a whole with Groene Weelde and the Haarlemmermeerse Bos.  

Cool fact: the shape is inspired by the famous Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt What is also nice to know is that the hill was originally built for the horticultural exhibition Floriade Haarlemmermeer, which led to Big Spotters Hill playing a mysterious leading role in the Suske en Wiske comic album ' The Flowery Floriade'.

Big Spotters Hill attracts many sports enthusiasts as the hill is ideal for a vigorous hill workout. As a reward for the climb, the Big Spotters Hill gives you a beautiful view of the surrounding area thanks to its height. With clear weather you can even see the dunes! A few times a year, events take place at Big Spotters Hill, including Mysteryland, a major annual music festival. 

If you come by car, you can easily park in Big Spotters Hill. Parking is free at the Pannenkoeken Paviljoen Cruquius in Cruquius and at the entrance of the Herdenkingsbos on Spieringweg in Vijfhuizen. Prepare for a steep climb and enjoy the view!
