De Groene Weelde: explore nature & come for a walk in Vijfhuizen
Walking in Spaarnwoude
De Groene Weelde is an ideal place for walking in Spaarnwoude. Do you have a dog? Then you can make your four-legged friend very happy by taking him to the Groene Weelde. The area has forests, playing fields, water features and beautiful wide watercourses with wild natural banks where dogs are allowed to run loose almost everywhere all year round. There is even a special swimming area for dogs where they can enjoy the water, ideal for warm weather.
Prince Bernhard Bos
Another nice walking area can be found at the Kruisweg. Here lies the Prins Bernhard Bos, a beautiful walking forest of 40 hectares. Trees and shrubs have been planted in this forest that are older and larger than what is normally planted, so that the entire forest has a nice mature appearance. The forest is a tribute to Prince Bernhard, because of his great commitment to nature conservation. There is even a tree in the forest that was planted by Prince Bernhard himself when the forest was created.
Big Spotters Hill
You will find a unique place in the Groene Weelde. Big Spotters Hill is a hill with a viewpoint of no less than 22 meters high on top. This hill was built on an artificial island, especially for the Floriade 2002 in Haarlemmermeer. When you are on top of this pyramid-shaped hill you have an amazing view over the Haarlemmermeer. In the summer, events take place at Big Spotters Hill, including Mysteryland, a major annual music festival.
Put on your walking shoes and come and explore nature in the Groene Weelde. The amazing view from Big Spotters Hill will certainly not disappoint!
