The Haarlemmermeerse Bos: from playground to Spartel pond

Just above Hoofddorp lies a green oasis of peace and nature: the Haarlemmermeerse Bos. This beautiful nature reserve is no less than 115 hectares in size, was developed in the 70s and was officially opened in 1979. Since then, the forest has not only become an ideal place for nature lovers. But also for visitors to various cultural events such as music festivals and the Floriade.

The Haarlemmermeerse Bos in Hoofddorp offers relaxation and recreation for every age group. For example, there are various playgrounds and a play trail for the smallest visitors. To the left of restaurant Papa's Beach House you will find a small playground on the water. Equipped with a water pump that can be operated by children themselves. In the adventurous play forest a little further you will find a wooden play castle, a rope course and climbing trees. The kids can enjoy themselves here. 

Hiking trails 

In the forest you can discover the diversity of nature via two special hiking trails. The tree path is 3 kilometers long and takes you past 67 different tree and shrub species. The insect path is 1,5 kilometers long and features special signs with information about the common insects in the forest. Extra fun to do on hot summer days, then you have a better chance of seeing all kinds of insects! Don't forget to keep a map of the Haarlemmermeerse Bos at hand. This way you always know exactly where you are.  

Swimming and water fun 

In the summer, children can enjoy the water fun in the Spartel pond. Good to know: during the warm summer months, blue-green algae may be present in the water. The quality of the water is checked regularly. Check before your visit the bathing water website to see if there are any current alerts. 
Adults can also use the water in good weather. The Haarlemmermeerse Bos has an extra swimming area on the South Beach next to the Spartelvijver. Sports enthusiasts can also enjoy themselves in the nature reserve. It is the ideal place for boot camps, but paddle boarding in the Haarlemmermeerse Bos is also very popular.

After a sports session or a walk in the woods, you can relax at Papa's Beach House. A cozy restaurant with outdoor terrace on the recreational lake. In addition, there are various events with food trucks to attend during the summer months. From music festivals such as Mysteryland to the famous World Horticultural Exhibition Floriade. 

Recreation with the camper or tent
