History Landgoed De Olmenhorst

After the draining of the Haarlemmermeer, the Amsterdam merchant Stephanus de Clercq came to Lisserbroek. He bought the first land of De Olmenhorst here and founded a farm. At that time, De Clercq already started growing fruit. The sixth generation now runs the 165-year-old family business. The orchard is now the size of several football fields, is considered to be on the list of 'natural beauty' and is a bird paradise. There are around 50.000 apple trees and 10.000 pear trees! You can visit De Olmenhorst all year round. The best time is of course spring when all the blossoms are in bloom or in the fall when the fruit is harvested. The estate is accessible from sunrise to sunset. You can even bring your dog, but it must be kept on a leash.

Picking apples at De Olmenhorst

Did you know that you can adopt a tree from the orchard? As a tree owner you can be the first to come by to pick 'your' apples in the fall! The picking season starts in mid-September. When exactly depends on the breed and the weather. Didn't adopt your own tree? Then join the picking with a guide. There are also separate picking days for school classes and childcare. Grandfathers and grandmothers often give their grandchildren their own adoption tree as a gift. Picking yourself is a real tradition for families from all over the country!
