National Monument MH17: memorial forest in Park Vijfhuizen
What is the MH17 National Monument?
The National Monument MH17 is a special landscape object and memorial forest that aims to keep the memory of the 298 victims alive. In the park-like oasis, 298 trees have been planted in a green ribbon in memory of the victims; one for each victim. It is a place to come together and has room for reflection, comfort and hope. Surrounded by a wreath of sunflowers, the forest features an intimate amphitheater and impressive monument.
The realization of the Monument
The realization of the National Monument MH17 started at the end of 2016, after two years of preparation. After four months of intensive work, the first trees were planted on March 18, 2017 for the deceased travelers and crew of flight MH17. On the Monument's website is a complete chronological overview described about the realization of the moment.
Support the MH17 National Monument
Even though the monument was built entirely with donations from governments, companies and private individuals, money is still needed for maintenance and necessary adjustments. You can do that donate on the website. Your contribution, however small or large, is greatly appreciated.
