Defense of Amsterdam

When the Defense Line of Amsterdam was built, between 1880 and 1920, this was a unique hydraulic engineering concept. This allowed the land around the line to be flooded. That way the enemy couldn't get through the water. However, thanks to the advent of the airplane, the Defense Line was not needed for long. However, it has largely been preserved as a monument. You can still discover its special parts today at various places in Haarlemmermeer.
