What is there to see and do?

The Barn Swallow offers an exciting experience for everyone from young to old. They can meet a wide range of animals, such as donkeys, different breeds of sheep and goats, rodents and various bird species. In addition, there is a playground with various play equipment such as a sandbox, swings and a climbing frame with slide, where children can have fun besides meeting the animals.
 

Educational outing 

In addition to fun, education is central to De Boerenzwaluw. Passionate employees enjoy sharing their knowledge about animal care. Also take a look across the street from the petting zoo at the experience garden. Various crops grow and bloom here and there is much more to experience. There is plenty to discover here all year round and throughout the seasons various products from the garden are for sale at the petting zoo. 
 

The employees 

Everyone is welcome to help the employees at the petting zoo, which also serves as a daytime location for people with disabilities. The employees carry out the daily work at the petting zoo and they have a lot of knowledge about the animals. They are enthusiastic and happy to tell you more about the animals and their work. If you also want to help, you can register as a youth member (12-17 years) or as a volunteer.

Activities for children 

In addition to regular visits, the petting zoo offers various fun and educational activities, such as the Sheep Shearing Festival where visitors can shear a sheep under supervision and make crafts with felt made of wool. There are also swap meets where children can exchange books and toys. The petting zoo also collaborates with various organizations, including C., which organizes the annual Hoofddorp aan Zee event in the experience garden. During this event, children who are not going on holiday or are going on a short holiday can participate in fun activities in the experience garden.
