Discover the Kagerplassen: Windmills, water fun and relaxation

Are you familiar with the Kagerplassen lakes? These lakes are located between Warmond, Oude Ade, Sassenheim, and Buitenkaag, at the southernmost point of Haarlemmermeer, just outside the municipal boundaries. The Kagerplassen lakes are not only picturesque, but with the most windmills of all the Dutch lakes, they're also a truly unique spot. Moreover, the lakes are the oldest water sports area in the Netherlands and remain one of the most popular sustainable water sports destinations in the country. Perfect for a day out!

Actively on the water

Can you already windsurf? Or would you rather book a windsurfing lesson? With over 70 years of teaching experience, you're in the right place. The Kaag Watersport Academy You've come to the right place. You can also try foil surfing here: a trendy water sport where you're propelled by a kite-like motion on a surfboard. With a foil surfing workshop at De Kaag Watersport Academy, you'll be flying across the water in no time! Prefer to explore the lakes in a more relaxed way? Then book a stand-up paddleboard and take a relaxing paddle past the windmills. Or take a yoga class on your stand-up paddleboard!

Sailing between windmills and bulb fields 

For those who enjoy spending a whole day on the water, there are plenty of boat rentals. Rent a canoe, enjoy the scenery, and navigate canals where motorboats are prohibited. Did you know that from the Kagerplassen lakes, you can sail past the colorful bulb fields? If there's enough wind, it's also fantastic to rent a sailboat on the Kagerplassen lakes from one of the sailing schools. It's a beautiful sail past the historic windmills and various islands in the Kaag River. 

 

Although there is no rowing boat rental, you can use your own rowing boat the Kaag and Braassem route Sailing. A beautiful 30 km route that takes you along the Braassemermeer lake. For enthusiasts, there's also the annual Kaagrace, a sporty and fun rowing event on the Kagerplassen lakes.

Enjoying the waterfront 

Need some relaxation after a water activity? Then settle down at recreational beach 't Joppe or let yourself be pampered at Matt's Brasserie in Buitenkaag. You can't miss this spot if you're coming from Kaageiland, cycling along the Ringvaart canal, or mooring your boat at their large jetty. On the large terrace, you have beautiful view on the Ringvaart and it is wonderful to stay in nice weather, and on the menu There's something for everyone. With a relaxed, family-friendly, and cozy atmosphere, this is the perfect place to toast a successful day!
