Hooray Barbie 65 years!
Barbie will be 2024 years old in 65. Barbie started out in 1959 as a role model for girls: you can be anything you want. In the 2023 film Barbie, Barbie is looking for her new role. Angelique Schipper has given her the role of Sustainability Ambassador: her Barbies (Barbie, Ken & Actionman) are dressed with waste and ready to convey the story in an attractive way.

Waste mountain
There is such a large surplus of clothing that it even ends up as waste in the desert. Every second a garbage truck full of garbage disappears into the dump. Angelique wanted to do something with that. After an initial trial with a Barbie dressed with the fabric of a broken umbrella, the reactions from children and adults were so positive that she started creating a collection of 100 Barbies dressed with waste: from wrappers to Easter eggs, papers towels, and candy bags to scouring pads. Something to think about! Do you see what it's made of? What happens to that waste when we throw it away? Do we then magic it back, like with recycling? Or is it a thing of the past? Are there other options? The exhibition has been traveling to various libraries since August 2023 and can now also be seen in the Cpunt Arts Center.
