The exhibition "Playing with natural materials" takes you on a journey through different artistic landscapes, where every painting by Romana Václavikova and every glass object by Bert Sterk tells a unique story through the use of different materials. The exhibition “Playing with natural materials” runs from Saturday April 6 to May 24 and opens on Friday April 5 at 16.00 p.m. Everyone is welcome at the opening or during the exhibition days and admission is free.

As a child, Romana Václavikova was inspired by the structure of stones, trees, wood and dry earth. This inspiration encouraged her to create art with materials such as wood, paper and plastic. All paintings show a 3D texture emerging from the surface of the canvas. This makes the curious viewer want to touch the surface of the painting. The use of recyclable material gives her paintings a unique character and takes you to a world of fantasy and emotion. At the same time it serves as a decorative element.

Bert Sterk completed his Glass Art course at the Academy of Visual Arts in Antwerp, where he discovered all aspects of glass art and specialized in casting glass in molds and sand molds. This technique makes it possible to give the desired shape to the wax or clay sculpture and to make a mold around it. After casting, the glass object gets a matte or rough skin due to the impression of the mold or the sand. This, in combination with light, enhances an image that is not possible with any other material. Sometimes the glass object is combined with other materials. These are weathered, lived materials, such as wood, stone or rope.

After the opening, the exhibition “Playing with natural materials” can still be seen from April 6 to May 24 on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 17 p.m. and by appointment. The address is: Wilsonstraat 61, 2131 PM in Hoofddorp. You can make an appointment by calling 023-5623858 or by tel mail. Look here for more information about The Garden Room Gallery.
